| Abstract: | Proof of concept testing has been performed on a "powerstick" trickle charger, which uses heat from a radioisotope heater unit to charge spacecraft batteries. The type of unit being tested uses a bismuth-telluride thermoelectric converter to produce roughly 40 mW at 15 V. This is much less power than a radioisotope thermoelectric generator (RTG), but the cost and level of environmental concern are also much less. |
