| Title: | The Promise of Ka-Band for Deep Space Communications |
| Authors: | Horttor, R. |
| Issue Date: | 21-Sep-1999 |
| Citation: | International Symposium on Deep Space Communications and Navigation Pasadena, California, USA |
| Abstract: | This talk briefly describes why there is a performance advantage over X-band and its limitations. The total advantage of a factor of 14.4 or 11.6 db, less the stochastic atmospheric effects can be used in several ways, smaller apertures, reduced RF power, greater data return through higher transmission rates, or shorter DSN track times at those same higher rates. |
